Thursday June 8th is World Oceans Day. A day to celebrate the importance of the oceans to all life on the planet. World Oceans Day promotes and fosters community action and global collaboration to keep the world’s largest ecosystem safe and healthy. Events take place throughout the week of June 8th and participants spend time learning about the ocean environment, marine life, and current challenges facing the world oceans. Many who live near the shore also volunteer time in cleanup activities.
SeaQuest Interactive Aquarium at The Boulevard will be celebrating World Oceans Day Wednesday June 7th, Thursday June 8th, and Friday June 9th. The theme for World Oceans Days 2017 is, “Our Oceans, Our Future.”
World Oceans Day at SeaQuest Las Vegas
Visitors to SeaQuest explore an interactive quest through more than 30 themed exhibits featuring such experiences as hand feeding birds in exotic aviaries, discovering desert reptiles up close, touching sharks, interacting with stingrays, and much more. Living in a city in the middle of the desert, children in Las Vegas don’t usually get to experience the ocean first hand on a daily basis. Seeing marine animals up close and interacting with them allows children to understand the abundance of life found in the waters of the world and why it needs to be protected.
In celebration of World Oceans Day, special guest Mermaid Shannon will be visiting SeaQuest. Guests will be delighted by her underwater performances between 2 pm and 8 pm all three days. In between swimming sessions, there will be meet and greet sessions and opportunities for souvenir photographs. Mermaid Shannon will also be signing copies of her best-selling book, Turtles Want Teammates. Copies of the book will be available for purchase during the event.
